The last two Tuesdays I have hopped on the ferry to Coochiemudlo Island, to deliver a drawing workshop to the Coochie Art Group.

It’s been a long time since I had such a high number of participants in a class, but everyone worked hard and produced a landscape drawing on textured paper as well as a charcoal drawing over collage on canvas. I love going over to the Island – I wish I had had more time to explore.

At the first session we textured the paper with gesso and tissue paper, and pushed charcoal over it to establish the foreground, mid ground and background; and we placed the collage and initial acrylic wash on the canvas. During the second session, the charcoal landscape drawings were completed, and then the canvas drawings, and we even had time for a quick show and tell, and critique – they are a hard working bunch!

Here is my drawing on canvas – each step during both processes, I demonstrated – but I haven’t had time to finish my own landscape on paper – oh well.
