Free pastel Demonstration Wednesday 1st Nov 2023

What will end up on here tomorrow? I have collaged tissue papers, snake skin, textured papers and music onto the AS board for the pastel demonstration tomorrow at the Old Fire Station Gallery, 395 Oxley Avenue in Redcliffe - 10.30 to 12.30 - free to the public on the first day of the Master and Accomplished Pastellists Exhibition. Finally Using this Beautiful Old Frame

Over thirty years ago I picked up this frame (garage sale or op shop somewhere) and through the years have tried to find a work for it. Nothing ever seemed to suit it. Finally I have created a piece that belongs! I cleaned up the back of the frame and glued the pieces that were falling off back on - mostly the strips of wood around the painting space. Portrait Demonstration to PSA October 17th, Pastel over Collage.

I felt the need to create a work full of hope and colour, in this present time when world events hang heavy. Although using the same process as in my last portrait demo, that of collaging the surface, the choice of papers and colours resulted in a much different feeling than that of the nostalgic air in the previous one. I took along to the meeting examples of other collaged materials on paper, and demonstrated attaching various weights of collage elements, and applying the Art Spectrum clear pastel primer over these, restoring tooth and preparing for pastel application.
