Pastel well received Caboolture Regional Art Gallery workshop

As part of the art testers programme being run by Caboolture Regional Art Gallery I presented an Introduction to Pastel workshop there yesterday. The participants explored pastel through four exercises, including stroke making, modelling form, and using pastel wet. Thank you to Memphis for facilitating, and also to Kathleen who helped with the set up and morning tea etc - it was a great experience, and a fabulous opportunity to introduce new people to the art of using pastel.

Fabulous group at Murray’s Workshop 27 and 28 May 2023

This past weekend reminded me why I love teaching so much. A wonderful group of artists gathered - very receptive and friendly, and generous with each other. Thank you to Murrays Art and Framing in Toowoomba for enabling this great experience. I will be back in October, delivering a workshop on the photo transfer process and how to use it in a mixed media work.

Burdekin Art Society Pastel Landscape Workshop March 2023

What a welcoming and generous group of artists attended this workshop. With a focus on introducing texture, the first day was spent on exercises in stroke making to denote texture, then adding AS pastel primer for texture, and lastly, using white tissue paper , gesso and a palette knife to create even more texture. On the second day, participants created a larger landscape suing these techniques. Thank you to Luisa for organising, and Barb for running me around, and I was so glad to finally meet June, with whom I had been communicating over all these past year when entering

Life Drawing Workshop Bundaberg Feb 2023

Thirteen participants gathered in Bundaberg to explore preparing and repurposing papers, and exercises from photographs on the first day, and drawing from a model on the second. This is a demonstration drawing from the first day. The paper was washed with water and a sponge, eradicating the previous drawing but leaving certain sections of the background still in place for the new life study. Everyone enjoyed preparing and repurposing papers, and could see how useful this process is in freeing up the start of a drawing from that daunting feeling of making the first mark on brand new clean paper.

Portrait Drawing Workshop Results

These two portraits were the demonstrations from my workshop in Newbridge NSW last December. There were two charcoal studies done on the first day, looking at the measurements of the face, and then using charcoal wet. This one above is on a quarter sheet of Art Spectrum Colourfix, using charcoal wet and heightening with white pastel. This one above, titled "Study - Scott, Saddlers Creek Wines" was done on the second day where we also explored using grey pastel wet. It is on a half sheet of white Art Spectrum Colourfix paper. I will be offering this same workshop in

Portrait Drawing in Newbridge Dec 2022

The group of artists working in Newbridge NSW were so welcoming. They participated in the two day workshop using charcoal, both dry and wet, and also using grey pastel. On the first day, we did a charcoal study looking at facial measurements, and then another study using wet charcoal and looking at tones. A larger portrait was completed on the second day, using grey pastel and charcoal both wet and dry. I will be offering this same workshop in Buderim on the first weekend in March, 2023.
