Hanging in RAS Gallery Shop

I decided to frame this, the first work that was an exploration of the AS plein air boards (see Blog www.triciareust.com .au for progression photos).

“Mountain Pass” replaces a work that sold at the Redcliffe Art Society gallery shop, 395 Oxley Ave in Redcliffe, open 10am to 3 pm Wednesdays through Sundays.

Testing Art Spectrum Plein Air Optimum Boards – Second Work

This is the second set of progression photos in testing out these Art Spectrum boards.
Photo 1. Collaged papers applied on the boards, one “White” board and one “Blue Haze”. The boards are acid-free and archival, with a thin layer of aluminium inside for sturdiness. They are light in weight.(The work on the white board has been covered in a previous blog).

Photo 2. I placed an acrylic wash with Atelier “Ultramarine Blue”.

Photo 3. AS soft pastel in purple pushed in with water and a brush.

Photo 4. When dry, the first layers of AS soft pastels are applied.

Photo 5. This detail shows how easily the pastel goes over the texture. I did not apply any further pastel primer over the collage before continuing to work with the soft pastel sticks.

Photo 6. “Turquoise Line” Pastel on collaged board. 16 by 20 inches (40 w by 51 h cms). The board is great to work on; didn’t buckle under the water/collage mediums; and took over four layers of pastel. These boards come wrapped in their own individual acid-free Krystal seal bag for transport and protection. They are sturdy enough to eliminate the need for a backing board.

Winner monthly PSA zoom submissions

Really pleased this portrait of my dad placed first in the monthly Pastel Society of Australia zoom meeting submissions last Tuesday.

Members from across the world log into these monthly Zooms and watch a demonstration by a noteworthy pastellist.
At regular face-to-face meetings, there are also demonstrations of the art of pastel and I will be demonstrating portrait over collage at the Sunshine Coast meeting Tuesday evening October 17th, Buderim Craft Cottage, 5 Main Street Buderim. 6.30 pm for a 7pm start – $5 members/$10 non-members.

Mixed Media Award!

I received the Mixed Media Award for “Outback Message” at the RAS Excellence Exhibition!

Come and see the exhibition at the Redcliffe Regional Gallery, 1 Irene St in Redcliffe, when I am demonstrating drawing on canvas there Saturday 21st October from 10.30 am. The JADA (Jacaranda Drawing Award) exhibition is on at this gallery now as well.
Thankyou to Arthouse Northside for loyal sponsorship and to all the hardworking volunteers who keep the RAS going. I am honoured to be a Life Member of this wonderful Society.

Thankyou to the Newbridge Art Group

Another wonderful couple of days with the artists in the Newbridge Art Group this month. We looked at “Landscape with Intention”.

Everyone was appreciative of the techniques and produced individual works – thank you for this warm welcome once again!

Home from Kandos

Three days in a row of mixed media techniques, working with people eager to learn and create – what a great way to finish off my NSW workshops road trip.

Thankyou to those people who continue to support me in my teaching – I love sharing how I add to visual stories. And thankyou to my husband who keeps my car in running order – the car has driven over some demanding road surfaces stuffed with art supplies and canvases – it is heartening knowing I can depend in it to get through.
I’ll be back down in NSW in August next year!

My Work in a Shop Window

The owner of this work “In The Grass”, pastel on collaged paper, has displayed it in her shop window.

This is the collage on the paper, in preparation for the pastel:
