I have accepted a challenge from a friend to create something on a surface or using media that I have never used before. Thinking of what I have done over the years, I have created on many surfaces, linen and cotton canvases; many types of papers including all weights of watercolour, cartridge, pastel and charcoal papers, paper doilies, pianola paper, newspaper, brown paper, cardboards; walls of buildings; fences of playgrounds, doors and windows, garden sheds, caravans and motor homes; bricks, besser block; glass, ceramics, pottery; metal saws; tin; human skin (never sought permission from animals); fabrics, bags, jackets; wooden boards, masonite, chipboard; boxes, trays, perspex etc. I’ve used oils, acrylics; watercolours, gouache; every type of pencil imagined; pastels, charcoal, conte, graphite sticks; inks etc; screen printed, printed lino cuts;
;
as for tools for making marks I’ve used brushes, sticks, organic things such as grasses and twigs, leaves and rocks; make my own stencils and stamps, collagraphs and printing plates etc. I’m sure I’ve left things out, just wish I could have another seventy years to keep experimenting.
I’ve never done an etching, but there are only three weeks left to work on this challenge.
I do have an idea – so I’ll keep you posted!
