I felt the need to create a work full of hope and colour, in this present time when world events hang heavy. Although using the same process as in my last portrait demo, that of collaging the surface, the choice of papers and colours resulted in a much different feeling than that of the nostalgic air in the previous one.

I took along to the meeting examples of other collaged materials on paper, and demonstrated attaching various weights of collage elements, and applying the Art Spectrum clear pastel primer over these, restoring tooth and preparing for pastel application.

This detail above shows the pastel pencil work in refining the facial features. The text collage element is from an old dictionary, the page containing “hope”.
