Pastel EXPO 2022 Excitement!

Here is a link to a free instructional video on pastel.

I will be presenting a workshop (pastel on canvas) and a demonstrating on preparing surfaces and creating new surfaces from old, for pastel work including using pastel wet, at the Pastel EXPO 2022 in Caloundra August 31st through 4th September.

Still Life Threads – the demo from Saturday 13th August 2022

I completed the still life I demonstrated for the PSA group on the Gold Coast. They were an enthusiastic and interested lot of artists and hopefully went home inspired to try to use pastel over collage.

Titled “Still Life Threads” it was a joy to pastel on this Art Spectrum Colourfix paper and over the collaged fabric in the foreground. Other collage elements include the printed napkin with the artwork, and some music.

This exercise was just in time as I am gearing up for the Pastel EXPO in Caloundra August 31 through September 4th. Another still life over collage on paper (here below) will be on show in the Tutors’ Exhibition at the EXPO – “Note Stream”:

I will be presenting a demonstration at the EXPO on how to prepare different surfaces for pastel and how to reuse papers and canvases which have older artwork on them. Also delivering a workshop on using pastel on canvas, so I can’t wait!

Mixed Media Workshop – Bundaberg

I am looking forward to being up in Bundaberg once again this coming weekend.

In this workshop we will be looking at how drawing can be an integral element in mixed media work. The process will be to briefly cover basic design principles; collage and texture the canvas surfaces on the first day, and complete the works with paint and/or dry drawing media. Drawings can be incorporated in the collage and/or drawn directly on to the canvas.
It is optional if you wish to add already existing drawings in with your collage, and if you wish to draw on your canvas.
We will explore completing one smaller work with a minimal approach, and another larger work incorporating all the techniques to be covered, including glazing, printing, stencilling and stamping.
Because we cover so many techniques, it is good to have one theme to harmonise the work and to be a repetitive motif eg leaves; birds; chooks; fruit; or, if you prefer an abstract approach, geometric shapes such as circles; rectangles; triangles etc.

We will be working on the techniques to place drawings in a mixed media work on canvas; establishing a strong design in collage; printing; stamping; stencilling; glazing colour; bringing it all together with a motif.
